Da Nang is one of the largest cities in Vietnam and sits at the mouth of the Han River on the eastern coast.

A different proposition to the likes of Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi, Da Nang is a city that provides plenty of opportunity to explore history and culture at a number of World Heritage Sites, but which is also well worth exploring in its own right.

Amongst the sites that are worth visiting are the Museum of Cham Sculpture, which houses the largest collection of Cham sculpture in the world, the huge Lady Buddha at the Linh Ung Pagoda, the Cao Dai Temple and the sand beach at Non Nuoc.

Across the city, you’ll find no shortage of places to sample local cuisine – which is one of the true highlights of any trip to Vietnam – and can also look to pick up some souvenirs to take back home.

Of particular interest are some of the local markets, such as the Han Market in the downtown area, where you can barter for the best deal with the traders trying to sell their wares.

When docking in Da Nang, there is a good chance you’ll also want to spend some time exploring the historical sites that are found nearby.

The Imperial City of Hue is home to a number of historical old buildings that were once a key part of Vietnam’s former capital, including a selection of old temples and the Tomb of the Emperors, whilst the archaeological site at Mỹ Sơn in remote forests outside Da Nang are also worth visiting.

In fact, it was in Mỹ Sơn that a number of the statues in the Museum of Charm Sculpture were found.

More ancient temples are to be found within Hoi An, where you can enjoy some time strolling through the city streets marveling at the impressive architecture that reflects the impact that foreign visitors have had on what was once one of Vietnam’s main trading ports.

Those who want to explore the scenery might decide to head for the Marble Mountains where you can explore a number of cliffs and caves, or the Ba Na Hills – which you can reach via a cablecar. Here, a walk across the Golden Bridge is a must.

In short, when it comes to seeing Vietnam as its very best, Da Nang is a destination that more than delivers.
