Puntarenas Cruises

Puntarenas is a popular port of call for ships that are sailing through the Panama Canal, with city acting as a gateway to some of the most impressive areas of Costa Rica.

The coastal town is a popular destination for people who want to escape the busy capital San José, with plenty of places where you can grab a bite to eat, relax with a drink or do some shopping whilst you are ashore.

However, a lot of people who arrive by ship in Puntarenas will be spending much of their time heading inland to explore other attractions that Costa Rica has to offer.

Head for the Carara National Park and you’ll be able to explore the native wildlife, including the Scarlet Macaw, or take a stroll through the the impressive surroundings of the Monteverde Cloud Forest via one of the various walking trails that are available.

Kayaking and white-water rafting are popular activities for those who enjoy being a bit more active, whilst ziplines that carry you through the canopy of the rainforest and which allow you to soar high over stunningly beautiful waterfalls are a must for anyone with a sense of adventure.

A river cruise through tropical mangroves could allow you to see Costa Rica’s crocodiles up close, or if you feel you’ve spent enough time on water, you may instead elect to board the unique Rainforest Aerial Tram for an alternative view of the rainforest from above.

Costa Rica is know for its coffee, so a visit to one of the local plantations might be something that appeals, whilst a day trip to San José is also offered by some of the cruise lines that dock in Puntarenas.

Here, you can visit all manner of different landmarks that include Costa Rica’s National Theatre and various museums.
